Mtn: East Osceola via Greely Ponds Trail and Mt. Osceola Trail

Date of Hike: Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2007

Trail Conditions: Deep packed frozen snow the whole way. No ice.

Special Equipment Required: Carried FWG, didn't need snowshoes.

Comments: We put on our crampons at the parking lot and they proved useful on the first few unbridged shallow brook crossings. Wore them all day for traction. The trail is a well-packed snowshoe track, marred only by random knee-deep depressions of a previous lone postholer. There were great views from the top of the steep slide. We summitted at 3:45 and although FDFMN wanted to go on to Osceola (apparently suffering the effects of drinking from the Carrigain well) I convinced him to descend so we could get past the steep section while there was still daylight.
