Trail in great shape. On the way up smooth and crunchy, perfect for microspikes, although I saw that crampons had been used, saw others in bare boots and snowshoes and the mighty tough little dog had it best in his low rider four paws claws. He could go anywhere on the crusty snow. On the ridge some drifted snow but no problems, although the path got off the official trail here and there. Wind was a little strong, and the sun on the snow gave me a red glow, but what spectacular alpine views. On the way back where the sun could reach the trail or down low where it was just warm, the trail was softening, but still firm. No postholing on the mostly "hidden" monorail, but step to the side and it looked like it was a long way down. There is a considerable amount of rime/snow on the trees high up, and while it wasn't any problem at all today, I'd want a waterproof parka and hat if it ever started to melt a lot. A great day to take off from work.
