Solitude in Fairfax county? Yeah! Well...relatively speaking.

To sum up my hike today, everything was gorgeous....gorgeous weather, scenery...you know it, it was great. Temps were in the low to mid 70s, the sun was shining for about 80 percent of the trip, and I got to check out some new scenery on the Bull Run/Occoquan trail.

Today, I hiked along about 3.5 miles of it south of Rt 28 near Manassas. Then I turned back for a 7 mile day. Anyhoo, here are the pics. Most are forest shots.

Bull Run

Leftover colors are still looking nice

Lots of beeches and oaks in the forest

I attempted some macro shots, something I am not comfortable with yet. I approve of some, while others I am not sure of. Here is one I'm hesitant about, but will post anyways, for comments.

IMO, one of the better stream pictures I have ever taken. This is Little Rocky Run

Pet cairn?

hmm....

My lunch spot...a very quiet area in a nook with a small stream. There was no noise pollution here, except for the occasional jogger. It was nice to have some relative solitude for the first time since I have moved to DC.

cont in a minute

part twwwwwwwwo

I like this reflection shot

More macro. I wasn't using a tripod, so these aren't that bad considering. Too bad the colors hadnt really changed yet.

Too much glare?

There was even a small view thrown in.

I like this one a lot.

back where I started

I know, lots of pics....but thats how I am. ;)

Here are the rest if you are completely bored

I want to complete this trail at some point. It really is beautiful, and I think I have finally found a gem in the rough.

Wow . . . you are are soooo right! Very nice pics. Sure looks like a lot of autumn still hanging around down there.
Here in the northern Whites . . . not so much!

Thanks for posting this Phil!

Yeah its hanging on tough. There are so many tree types, that there are a few different peaks. Right now the oaks and hickories are in peak.

There is a 50 mile running event held on that trail annually in April called the Bull Run Run. It's a double out-and-back course starting & finishing at Hemlock Overlook. Central to the event, historically at least, is a north vs. south Civil War theme honoring those who fought there a century and a half ago.

Next time you're out there, do the southern end of the trail and check out the Nash Rambler! :D

I def plan on hiking the whole thing. The trail is a little piece of heaven, amongst the hustle and bustle of the DC metro area.
