Today a group of people at Monadnock Trail Days including me relocated the beginning of the Fairy Spring Trail. Previously it left the White Arrow Trail just above the Monte Rosa Trail and ran parallel for a few hundred yards, now it instead leaves the Monte Rosa Trail after the bridge and just before a steep uphill and runs nearly level a short distance to rejoin the existing trail at the foot of a stone staircase under construction.

The purpose of the relocation was to allow Fairy Spring Trail hikers to utilize the bridge on the Monte Rosa Trail instead of building another one.

Uphill hikers will easily see the new Fairy Spring Trail if they turn on the Monte Rosa Trail but will have more trouble if they look for the beginning in the old location :) Downhill hikers will easily follow the new section but need to turn L on the Monte Rosa Trail instead of R thinking its the White Arrow Trail they hit :) Presumably the park will post signs and update maps so this is a temporary issue.

Trail-baggers wishing to complete the present or a classic guidebook will find the old route a pain as it's filled with brush although as of yet there are no rules against hiking it. Of course one hopes the new book will contain the new route so some folks will need to hike this one again :)
