I took about 500 photos this past weekend...most came out allright....really they were taken for my own pleasure, and as a way to remember the foliage, kind of like my own journal. But a few of them came out well enough that I'd like to share for real critique.

Funny enough, these first two were posted on NECN Thursday morning, because I posted them on weather underground. It was a nice surprise to wake up and see the pics on tv. :)

And now, a couple others that I am proud of.

I've been trying to "nail" getting a person to successfully mesh in a photo. How about this one?

Really nice! The first image has vivid color of corse, but it also has nice lines, IMO. The bright green accents set the table for the fall colors, and nice lines are made by the log on the lower left and the thin branch on the upper right, and the path takes the eye into the back of the image and back to the front.

The second image may have benefitted from a polarizer, unless you were facing southish under the bright sun, but the composition is excellent.

The third image is awesome! Nice, interesting composition and a nice cloudscape. Some may want to crop the top a bit and I wouldn't disagree, but it's also nice as is.

I think you put the person on the ledge at a good distance in the last image.

I would suggest a polarizer and/or warming filter in some of these situations to better capture the color of the scenes. The comopsitions are excellent!

happy autumn :)

I agree with forestgnome. Four very nice shots.

In addition to gnome’s comments, I would add these for each of the four images:
1. I like the vertical lines of the trees on either side of the path. They act as minor leading lines, the path being the major sight line. The green leaves at the top act as a nice frame and help to “corral” your eyes
2. Judging from the other shots I would say the sun is at your back to your left about 45 degrees. A polarizer would help but be careful with polarizers and wide angle shots, particularly horizontal compositions. You can get varying degrees of polarization of the sky and thus you’ll have a dark sky on one side of your image and a light sky on the other.
3. Nice dramatic sky which could really use a polarizer. Watch the level of your horizons.
4. Nice subject placement. And he is looking in the correct direction; into the photo.

Nicely done. Keep ‘em coming.

I agree with above, you've recieved some great critique to some very nice shots. AND congrats on your feature on NECN...that's awesome.

I think that the lines in the rock leading to the person can't be understated in the shot...diagnals and leading lines are so important. And the fact that the person follows the looking in rule really helps. A polarizer would make this pop a bit more...but that by no means detracts from it...

Nice work!
