The plan was to summit Washington for our #48, but the freezing rain at Marshfield changed our minds on that attempt. Plan B was something not above treeline, so we went south to do these three. A-Z was packed to the Avalon junction. We "broke" Avalon which had about 2 inches of new snow over a good base. We did do more breaking over to Willey with a bit more snow on the trail. The descent to Tom from Field was roughly broken. Snow was much deeper and drifted so not well consolidated. Lots bare booting so this section is choppy. Up to Tom, some boot marks but our snowshoes helped smooth them. A-Z was well packed. Snowshoes should still be standard for these trails.
No #48 but a great day out with our son, Beth/Steve, Dave, Neal and Joe
