This peak is the second most popular hike in Arizona. So I had to check it out for myself. It’s a simple 1.2 mile hike to the top and located right in the middle of Phoenix in the Phoenix Mountain Preserve. The trail is called the summit trail and starts off on a cement pad that is broken up. There are several steps, guard rails, benches, and cemented rocks as well as cement curbs along part of it. I’m guessing for erosion prevention.
We shared the peak with over 100 people, but we needed to get out and hike something before we flew out. Nothing at all felt like a wild experience. The views were fantastic and the summit was pretty cool. Maddi and I actually had the summit to ourselves; no one wants the steep rock scramble from the lower summit-that was the most natural feel I had on the entire hike. Well time to fly out and back to reality.
