Fire Tower on Blue Job Mtn

I was up at Blue Job Mtn. in Farmington, NH tonight for a quick hike in the rain after work. It looks like they are dismantling the fire tower and putting up an observation deck. Does anyone know the background on this - why they are dismantling the tower (assuming its $$); will the observation deck be open to the public.

Wow, that's the first I've heard of that! I know they removed Green Mountain from full time service this year, but didn't hear about Blue Job.

A good sign ...

If they're putting up an observation deck and not dismantling everything, then it's a good bet they'll still be a general viewing area for the hiking public.

Apparently they are installing a new cab as was done with Pack Monadnock.

"They were going to lift a prefab cab with a crane but further investigation
contradicted earlier reports that a crane could get to the summit. My guess is that they will truck the walls to the summit and hoist them by hand or maybe they will have them airlifted into place. Given the State budget my guess is the former and it should happen soon with the old cab gone."

They are definitely building a new cab. It's almost done too. Saw two ATVs on the small blue job summit - think they are coming up from the back side/corner of the northern blue job summit. Anyone know who to call at the NH forest service to report? Thanks.
