I hike Mount Flume from Lincoln Woods yesterday. My video won't be ready for a few days or so, but I figured I would write a brief text report now in case anybody is considering it, since trail conditions are favorable right now. I bare booted the 1.4 miles of Lincoln Woods Trail, which was trampled solid, and then put my snowshoes on at the Osseo Trail junction. The Osseo trail was fairly well packed out, especially down low. There was somebody bare booting in front of me, and occasionally postholing, but for the most part he wasn't damaging the trail much down low. Higher up he churned things up a bit. He passed me on the way down somewhere just below the ladders, but later it became evident that he hadn't summited. No idea why he turned around - maybe fatigue.

In any case, all the ladders were basically bobsled runs caused by one or more people ass glissading, which made them very difficult to ascend. (I was amazed that there was no visible sign of the ladders at all, they were just buried with snow.) Above the ladders the bare booter did a lot more trail damage, but by the time I went to the summit and returned I had packed it all back flat pretty well. Hopefully nobody else bare boots it between now and when the cold returns.

It was 25 at the summit and mostly overcast, with very light winds. As per usual with all my winter hikes, I was once again fried by the time I made it back to my car, but it was a very enjoyable day.

I'll post the video ITT once it's ready. But I think the trail right now is in prime shape for a quick ascent.
