I believe " Welcome, NO SALES TAX: property owners pay for everthing" is more like it.

DOT keeps getting more points on my least-favorite-state-agency list; those huge mileage markers every 0.2 miles, and now this.

I do, however, like Peterborough's sign...

Could be worse. They coulda been outright honest and said " New Hampshire Leave your money then go away!" :D

Or how about "Where smiling to amuse you!"

Ahhh yes, New Hampsherites have always been the brutaly honest type! ;)

Hahahahahaha!

Granite Staters should unite in force, and post a big muscle-bound hairy gun-toting mountain dude with his rifle giving everyone the evil eye as they pass the sign. I know of several people in Farmington and Ossipee that would fit the bill nicely, and I'm sure they won't mind...

Hahaha! What a great mental picture. I crack myself up... (is that bad?)

HEY! My Uncle would fit the role PERFECTLY! A scruffy bearded, 6' card carrying NRA member marching around with his assault rifle and a Parodi cigar puffing its white smoke of death  . The Mass. folks would tuck tail and run, the Mainers would laugh their butts off and the Vermonters would be saying "whats so funny we been doin that for years!" Canadians? I dunno WHAT they would say......eh :D .

Could be worse... The sign entering Mass from NH in Methuen could read"... Buenos dias, recepcion a Massachusetts" :D

I'm not quite sure if I've ever been more proud to be a native! You hit the nail on the head my friend, at's fa shua!

BTW, I vote for the first one. I think that's the true spirit of the state.

Hmmm maybe its the new PC, they don't want anything French on State owned signs.

A la Freedom Fries? That's the first thing I wondered about. But who is "they"? DOT? Not Gov. Lynch, I'd venture, although this was probably in the works earlier. But this discussion would take us over another border into politics so I'll have to drop it now.

When I was just learning how to read I thought that there was a small town in New Hampshire, just over the Connecticut River from Ascutney that was named Bienvenue. Everybody does their shopping in Claremont since it's the nearest place that has grocery and department stores, so I went there with my mom a lot. My reasoning went something like this. Since there was one town between the border and my town and the actual builtup area of Claremont is a few miles from the border, then there could be a town in between. And there was this big sign that said:
WELCOME TP
BIENVENUE AU
NEW HAMPSHIRE

I guess I wasn't sure what the AU was for.

Imagine my confusion the first time we went to West Lebanon and I saw a similar sign.

A NYC friend had a similar experience with the town of Sortie, on the road betwen Montreal and Quebec. "Damn big town", he told me.

It's a good thing our government has nothing better to do than to discuss whether to take the French language off of our signs. Oy Vey! I'm glad they decided to keep it though. Those signs are one of the reasons that I studied French for 8 years.
