Our trip leader, Paradox (John), finally got to fly the big flag for Flags on the 48 on West Bond. Michael J tells me it looked awesome from South Twin.

At 6:30am, John, Tim, Tom, Laurie, John, Tom and Ann (we adopted Ann at the trailhead) struck off from Zealand Road bound for West Bond. There is a bit of mud and water until the Z bridge but beyond that everything is in surprisingly good shape. Even the spur to Zealand was less muddy than usual. At about 11:30 we arrived at West Bond and the flag was up before 12:00 noon. Unfortunately, we only had 6 visitors while the flag was there.

From the summit we could see most of the surrounding peaks and their flags. Lafayette never really came out of the clouds, but we saw flags on: Osceola, Flume, Liberty, Lincoln, Garfield, South Twin, Bond, Carrigain, and Bondcliff.

Of particular note, there was a chopper (National Guard, we believe) circling the Pemi peaks, including West Bond. Video of chopper circling West Bond.

Awesome photos and videos! And your flag did look GREAT !!

The fly by's were amazing -- they came so close to South Twin that I could see someone inside waving back and giving the thumbs up. It was a very moving day :)

It was a great day. The chopper flyover was pretty cool! We are always glad to make the trip up to NH for this event!

It was great to join in on this hike. Great group and stellar way to remember the day and honor those lost that day.

Tim, thanks for sharing the video of the military chopper flyover, that indeed was a special moment and call to remember those who have served and sacrafice to keep us safe since. Also, today was proof that Yankee and Red Sox fans can come together for a worthy endeavour.

Our six by ten foot flag in all of its glory

Thanks!

Thanks to all who showed their dedication and perseverance by making the difficult trek to these distant mountains! I'm sure those who were honored by this would be proud!
