I have an 1 revision old White MG mapset which doesn't label the short trail to the falls. Is the permit that is required free or is it another pay thing? Eric and I hiked to the end because we saw no place to get a permit. A ranger eventually ran into us just as we were packing up from lunch and a dip, and asked us if we had a pass. We did not and asked him where do we get one which he replied at Lincoln Woods. Explained to him that we never passed there as we were coming in from the Garfield Trail. We never asked if you had to pay for a pass though... Is it free or is it another charge?

Nice falls! Water was very cold though, but it was nice to clean up a bit.

They're free and they're available at the Lincoln Woods ranger station. They exist solely to limit the number of people at Franconia Falls at any one time.

It is free, but there are a limited number available. They are trying to reduce to overcrowding and overuse of FF, so only a set number are allowed to be in the Falls area. If they are full up, you have to wait until some people leave before they will issue more passes.
