Trails: Old Bridle Path, Franconia Ridge, Liberty Springs, Bushwack, Bike Path

Trails a mix of slush down low to mixed ice/slush snow at intermediate elevations. Agonies covered in some soft ice, traction necessary. Monorail above approximately 3500 feet, a mix of bare ground, mud, slush, corn snowfields, and slush/ice above treeline. Snowshoes and microspikes were the traction choice of the day. Postholing easily avoided with snowshoes on the deeper areas.

Between Little Haystack and the Liberty Springs Jct a considerable amount of rotting snow still exists, as we expected. A firm but narrow monorail exists. Snowshoes are a must here to preserve the path and avoid potholing. Trail could use some brushing for the first half mile or so. Minor blowdowns, easily avoided.

Liberty Springs Jct to Mt Liberty: firmly packed monorail. Snowshoes advised to keep it consolidated.

Liberty Springs below Jct: firmly packed monorail to slush, to slush/running water, to running water. Trail bare by the time we reached Flume Slide Jct. Considerable mud from there on down. Crossings flowing fast and heavy but easily crossed on this sunny day when we didn't mind getting our feet wet.

Bushwack herdpath visible, but most of it is underwater.

Still slush ice on the bike path.

Great day in the woods with Eric Rathbun, Madison, Terra and Pemi. 23/48 for Pemi Aussie Puppy, 267/576 for me and looks like March will wrap up at 23 peaks. Nice way to end the winter. Saw Claude and a hiking companion, and a large French Canadian Group. That was it for the day.

Happy Trails. :)
