The Merry Crew Approaching Liberty

Today's White Mountain foray was an "oldie but a goodie", Franconia Range from the north. The Cast of Characters included Drewski, Cath, MEB, Jon and myself. This was only Jon's second exposure to hiking with Peakbraggers™, so he still wasn't quite used to hearing how people "need" mountains, but I am sure he will adjust and start keeping a spreadsheet handy before too long. ;)

After a bit of confusion as to which Basin parking lot was the official meeting place/car drop, we darted North to Lafayette Place and began tromping up the Bridal Path, which suprisingly hadn't seen any action since the last snowfall.

It was a fine day to be on the ridge, and although the sun stayed hidden for the better part of the day, we were treated to a spectacular sunset and undercast from Liberty.

I'll let the pictures tell the rest of the story...

I think I have to rate that as one of my all time favorite White Mtn hiking photos.

Holy Carp Tim,
Those shots during the magic hour are definately among the best shots of the Whites I've ever seen as well. The trees are plastered, the light is great, and the compositions are as well thought out as one would expect from you. Simply stunning work.

As for the hike, great to see everyone got out and had a good time!

This was our farewell to Fall hike. It was simply fantastic.
We made fresh tracks up Lafayette, over to the Liberty Springs trail,
and then from the summit of Liberty to Flume.

As Mare said, it was like everything in the forest was covered in marshmallow fluff. We found some air pockets in the dry powder along the route, which would provoke a good amount of laughter, as we would have to extricate ourselves from the depths.

The late afternoon views were incredible, with the undercast, which made the surrounding peaks seem to become more defined. The almost full Moon was a brillant white, and the setting sun displayed a wide array of colour, starting with yellows & oranges, that than transformed into soft pastel pinks & purples. Tim's photo's really do capture what we were witness to. Amazing.

We briefly saw the young couple that had come up Falling Waters to Little Haystack, but missed whomever had come up Liberty Springs.

Hopefully this afternoon's weather event won't change the snowpack too much. Happy Holidays everyone :)

Wow, you folks certainly chose well! We were IN the undercast all day, getting out just about dark, and never did see sun or moon.

But still, it was a great walk through the Fluff ;) and fun to do a part.

Beautiful photos, as always, Tim.

Wow, great pictures. Really makes me miss hiking. I'm out of action since the middle of November with a re-injury of my patella tendon. Physical therapy is no substitute.

I am so jealous. :(

Happy Holidays to all....

Kevin

Majestic...

Simply breath taking photo's as always Tim.

Thank you for sharing them.

Mean Girls and Nice Guys hiking together, WHAT is this world coming to?!

;)

Yikes!!! Thanks for sharing these beautiful images. Excellent capture of a beautiful experience. These images put the viewers right there in the scene.

happy trails :)

Guess you guys were the one packed in OBP so nicely. We noticed it was in great shape as we went up Saturday.

Great pictures, a good way to say goodbye to fall and usher in winter season. You guys had a gorgeous day, its hard to beat Franconia ridge on a day like that. It appears only a big black fuzzy dog could have made it any better....I can't help thinking of Brutie and Kevin especially when I'm up there in the snow.

See ya on the trails....

Funny you should mention that, Jen. As I was enjoying Tim's pictures I was reminiscing about all the times Brutie did the Lincoln/Lafayette loop with me, especially in winter. I looked it up in my log - 27 times. I think he knows every twist and turn in that loop better than I do.

Yeah the big guy was definately right at home up there. No matter what the weather he was always happy as a clam. I was up on Sunday with Bob H, who was displeased with something or other going on on the trail at the time. I told him to make like Brutie and stick his nose in the snow, wag his tail and move along.....and if he did I'd give him a tuna sandwich at the end.

I'll let you guess how Bob responded :D
