Poor Orphaned Thread
Hi.
Noticed no one's replied, so I'll give it my half-assed usual:
A friend and I did a cross-over from Falling Waters to Madison in June. From Franconia to 302 is about 30 miles, give or take, but the route we took was:
Falling Waters --> Little Haystack -->
Lincoln --> Lafayette -->
Garfield Ridge (which kicked our asses as a first day!) -->
Galehead --> Twinway --> Guyot (2nd night) -->
Zeacliff --> Ethan Pond (third night) -->
302.
We then went up Webster Cliff and on from there.
I really should do a trip report for the over-forties among us, but quick notes included:
== Stock up on water for Franconia & Garfield Ridges. It's dry.
== Carrying heavy was a challenge for such a trip (we found we're old).
This should not be an issue for you if you're day-hiking it.
== Bring sunscreen if it's sunny! And I can't imagine the exposure on
Franconia Ridge if it's not.
== As much as Garfield was brutal at the end of the day, South Twin was
TREMENDOUS the next! Guyot Twinway is beautiful. Zeacliff is steep.
Ethan Pond is welcome; Thoreau Falls is NOT TO BE MISSED!
==Bring a wheelchair for Galehead Hut's new ramp. Hyuck.
==Next trip, we'll get the hell off the AT. Zeacliff was nicely rustic,
comparatively.
Hope this helps,
--Mike
