Has anyone heard anything about the Wild River road status, it appears to still be closed.
When I was there on 7/4/24 they hadn't done anything at all yet. I'm guessing this got pushed into 2025 in favor of more pressing issues.

The closure order is for 2 years and they just updated it 3 weeks ago reflecting no changes.
Was it for 2 years? I thought they had just written it off for 2024? So it will be closed in 2025 too? Major bummer.

It's "2 years or until rescinded" so it could possibly be opened at some point before. Or not and they just extend the order. I'm probably more pessimistic than others.

I didn't the link but thanks. I trust your info and wasn't questioning what you said. It was just a buzz kill. I really like that area and it is a much more difficult haul getting in there now, at least to the areas I enjoy anyway.

And you are right to be pessimistic on these things. You have history on your side with that.

That is a bummer, that's one of my favorite fall hiking areas. When all the other areas get crazy that was my fall back area. Plus I like camping at wild river campground, very quiet. I wish forest service would at least let those willing to bike or hike in to camp. That would be unque to be able to fat or .
mountain bike in.

One nice thing about the road being closed is that it truly does feel like a wilderness this year. I dropped into it down Black Angel trail in August and then took Highwater to Moriah Brook and camped off of Moriah Brook. Then climbed out of it up Moriah Brook and went 23 hours and 50 minutes between seeing another person. Pretty unusual on trails in the Whites on a Friday and Saturday in August.
