Five of us started late and walked the first half of the trial in perfect 70 degree weather with plenty of sun. A few areas had hard pack snow and ice but they were easily avoided and would have been easier if we had brought micro-spikes. Once we reached the top of Lafayette the weather turned and it began to rain so our traverse to the next two mountains got interesting. The summits were bare rock so the hiking was easy but the rain and wind soked our pants and boots, which made the descent a pain. Even worse there was more ice and snow going down Little Haystack, which made the hike even slower. The Falling Waters trail was the last 3 miles and turned out to be exactally what it sounds like. A lot of water. By the end of the trail there were several river crossings which soaked us to the bone. It may sound like we didn't have a good time on the hike but in fact, we had a great time. It was very challenging and more than we were expecting but the views were amazing and I'm sure the trail will be better later in the season. So have fun out there and be safe.
