I walked home from work Monday evening and the full moon was as beautiful as it gets. I called my wife on the cell phone and she had no interest in going for a moonlight snowshoe hike. I stopped at a retired neighbors house who had through hiked the AT in 1992, he was all for getting out. I suggested Mount Livermore in Holderness. I picked him up at 8 pm and we headed for the trailhead about 15 minutes away. It took us less than half an hour to get to the ledges at the top of Mt Livermore which look East out over Squam Lake. The full moon was as bright as I have seen it, the sky was blue in the moonlight. I set up a tripod and used 10 second exposure times with an iso of 100, never got the f/stop. The lights of Gilford, Meredith and Holderness are visible in the views to the SSE. Cold up there about 10 degrees but the wind was still. Great night to be out. 1.8 miles, 1.5 hours.

Very nice! It's great to be out in a moonlit winter landscape.

Next full moon will be eclipsed. Feb 20th, 10:00 - 11:00 :D

happy trails :)

Chips was along also, but the photos of her were not very good. Zippy was in her glory. At one point near the top we stopped and just listened and there was literally no sound. It was as quiet a time as I have ever experienced. Just a great time to be out. The moon was so bright I did not use my headlamp to set up the camera.

You were wise to go out on Monday. We were planning to go on Tuesday night but the sky clouded up. I'm surprised it was so quiet--no animals howling?
