I happened to find this little formula, courtesy of Ditt Dittmar in 46er dues notice many years back.

Take your 46er number and double it. Then add 5. Multiply by 50 and then add the last TWO digits of the year you completed the 46.
Add 365 to this and subtract 615.

The last 2 numbers will be the year you finished and the other numbers your 46er number.

Let x = 46er number

double it: 2x

add 5: 2x + 5

multiply by 50: 50 (2x + 5)

add last two digits of the year you finished (we'll call these "tu" for tens and units digits):
50(2x + 5) + tu

add 365: 50(2x + 5) + 250 + tu + 365

suntract 615: 50(2x + 5) +250 + tu + 365 -615

Now let's simplify:

distribute the 50: 100x + 250 +tu + 365 - 615

combine like terms (the constants) you get: 100x + tu

the 100 x moves the digits of your 46er number over two places opening up the tens and ones (units) places for the last two digits of the year you finished

The fun for me is figuring out the pattern!

What happens if you're a "W"? Do you use "White out" as you add, subtract and multiply?

Like ghosts coming out of a snow storm, you are then using the complex number system and work in imaginary numbers.

Wow, a math geek!

(It takes one to know one.) :D

2224, 86. +i? It's been real, not imaginary fun. :)

why does anyone need a formula that tells you what you already know??????
