Met a few swarms on the Mohawk Trail this past evening...

I killed a mosquito up here Sunday, so I believe it.

I heard/read that because of the heavy rains, experts are disagreeing on the severity of the mosquito infestation this year. Some think that the dampness would encourage growth, others say that because there was too much water it will tend to kill off the eggs.

Black fly larvae mature in running water so I suspect the rains wont matter much to them. Either way, we're screwed.

07APR10: Black flies out in the Ossipees...

...in decent numbers, on the Bald Knob Trail earlier today (April 7).

They were not a problem as long as one was moving, but would gladly bite the bejesus out of anyone who stopped for a moment to rest.

It's that time...

Met a few swarms on the Mohawk Trail this past evening...

gnats or biting black flies ? I don't think we've ever had biting black flies over here.

Chip- they were way too big for I call gnats--retrieved 1 or 2 from my shirt line and squished them...but I will say I did not suffer any bites.

Also, I noticed the first moths about 2 weeks ago in a warm spell, concentrated in one area.
