Date of hike: 8/3/08
Trail Conditions: Gale River Tr. 2nd river crossing difficult. Otherwise, muddy, slippery, extremely wet conditions. Twinway and N. Twin spur fine but wet. Frost to Galehead fine but wet. Garfield Ridge Tr. torrentially wet near Garfield campsite making steep climbing difficult for those with heavy packs. Garfield Ridge Tr. above Garfield Tr. intersection fine. Garfield Tr. to parking lot a constant flowing stream but easy grades and relatively easy water crossings make it uneventful and much easier than Gale River Tr.
Special Equipment: sandals, rope for multiple party river crossing, removal of boots and pants for second Gale River crossing. Removal of boots for other crossings. Difficult to stay dry - serious rain gear helpful. Trekking poles extremely helpful for added stability. Monsoon rain gear helpful.
Comments: see above. Trip was 19 miles. Solo. Took apprx. 10.5 hours. Recommended only for those desparately in need of a thorough hike.
