Can someone give me a heads up on the parking situation for the Gale River Trail? Can a couple of cars fit in at the Rte 3 road entrance?
Merci
CS/BMT

Yes - accross the street at the intersection with Trudeau Rd there is a parking area that can fit a half dozen cars. You can also park at the Beaver Brook XC ski parking lot and bushwhack to the Fireroad.

This intersection is also known as Five Corners.

We used to have to park here to walk in to Garfield trail. In a pinch (plus a short roadwalk, or just a walk along the dirt road), one could park at the lot for Garfield and walk to Gale River Tr. Walking in from Beaver Brook is probably shorter.

Yes, it is shorter - maybe a mile?

More interesting too, than walking along the Gale River rd. Just have to use a little care if returning after dark as the re-entry point from the road to the ski trails can be a little confusing due to recent logging activity.

Yes, Beaver Brook is definately the way to go. I walked it yesterday and
the Beaver Brook xc trail plus walk across the logging clearing to the road save about a mile from the tedious road walk. Took 25 minutes from lot to Trailhead taking time to move deadwood etc. Still only 3 inches of snow on a base of ice and frozen crud.

Thank you Mike, you can imagine how glad I (and we the BMT) are to be back in the woods again.
I hope to hike with you soon.
Warm wishes,
CS

If you do hike the Beaver Brook ski trails, please respect (ie stay off, as much as possible) the ski track. Postholes and even snow shoe prints can damage the ski track and make travel more difficult for the skiers.

Of course but in order to set track we need snow and there is none to speak of.
Of course--if one's passage does not affect the present or future skiability of the trail, then there is no issue. Most BC skiers that I know have little interest in skiing on rock and ice...

I was on the Gale River loop road yesterday. There is tons of room in the plowed parking area outside the gate on the west side of the loop to park. Don't worry about having to park at Beaver Brook unless you want to. The loop road itself has a very thin snow cover. You might eke out a ski on it if you don't mind your skis bottoming out now and then but bare boots are fine.
