Date of Hike: May 16, 2008-May 17, 2008
Trail Conditions: Packed in late Friday night with Dave Bear and Chris up Gale River Trail to Galehead hut. The company was much appreciated! Approximate hike time was close to 4 hours (in the dark). River crossings were fairly easy. At 3500+ feet snow becomes burdensome (lots of postholing) but manageable. The following day I left Galehead hut to tackle South and North Twin. Patched of snow/ice and bare spots all the way up to South Twin (AMAZING VIEWS!!!!). Then headed over to North Twin. This part of the hike was exhausting. I probably post-holed 50 times and would highly recommend snowshoes (Becca was all the wiser). The trip from Galehead hut to both Twins and back to the hut again took approximately 4 hours.
Special Equipment Required: Poles smart and should be mandatory. Snowshoes would have been useful at times.
