The Gale River Trail to the hut was very muddy, but otherwise fine. The stream crossings were not bad, although the bridge on the upper (2nd?) stream crossing had been washed into the woods, so we had to wade.

The Garfield Ridge Trail was in good shape, but the Garfield Trail was a mess. Many sections in the middle third of the trail were heavily eroded - gullies practically. Lots of flowing water on the trail, lots of mud & loose rocks.

The Gale River Loop Road to the Gale River and Garfield trail heads is closed at one end due to bridge washouts, so you have to go in via the north end of the loop off Rt. 3.

The weather was great - no rain for a change! Views from the Garfield summit were unbeatable.

Special equipment: poles for stream crossings and for vaulting mud pits. ;-) Keens, Crocs, etc. for same.
