Location
at Madison summit
We parked at south end of Gale River Rd., with plenty of room. The road walk was ok with a thin layer of crusty snow over ice. Garfield Trail was very icy up to about the brook crossings, then had a little more snow on top of a snowshoe/ski track. Snow depth increased as we got higher but the track was still solid. Microspike-ers and barebooters were the norm today..saw 10 others and no one using snowshoes...went to see the new Garfield Shelter and it appeared the Garfield Ridge Trail was being heavily used in the past few days and today by at least 4 leaving the shelter..GRT south seemed to have a pull sled track on it..descending GT two before us used sleds to get down some parts..we took the snow machine bridge route back to Gale River Road to avoid the icy part of the GT...clouds did not lift for us at the summit(soab!!)
