I don't mean to restart a discussion of the relative merits of different traction aids like YakTrax, Stabilicers, x-pointed crampons, etc., but I just bought a pair of Get-A-Grip Advanced at Wal-Mart for my wife, mostly for sidewalk/parking lot use, not for hiking. Urban crampons. The price was an unbelievable $4.97 (compare Campmor at $19.99).

Disclaimer: I am not a Wal-Mart employee, yet.

I will still buy from Campmor because it is still closer to me than the nearest Walmart.

So long as you don't try to kill yourself with the get-a-grip, then Walmart will stop selling them. ;)

Not to trash a great American success story but...

Several years ago I worked at an importer/distributor of kitchen gadgets. There was one particular item I remember, a package of two little paring knives we would buy from the orient for $.12 per package, sell it to Walmart for $.21 and Walmart would turn around and retail it for $2.99. That's a profit margin of a lot of money for Walmart...
