Date of Hike: 12/30/07

Trail Conditions: rail was hard packed snow and ice all the way to the Ledges and then to the summit of Panther. A few areas were uncovered especially near the Ledges. Ice made things interesting particularly in the col and the trail up and down Panther.

Special Equipment Required: Snowshoes - carried but not needed, could be used for traction; Yaktrax: used and useful until they BROKE!; Crampons - would have been the most appropriate choice but left them home

Comments: Not a very difficult hike but the broken Yaks were annoying. Twelve or more inches of snow over the last two days will make snowshoes essential! Read more and look at pictures on www.catskillhiker.com.
