Trail and Mountain names should go in the thread TITLE

Date of Hike: 8/17/2013

Trail Conditions: Ridege Trail in great shape, last on the Ridge trail in 1996, many improvements, beaver activity down low but some switchbacks and stairs added, Getting down Giant towards RPR is steep and eroded in several spots. East Trail overall in good shape, let's less frequently used than the other two appraoches to Giant from Route 73.

Special Equipment Required: Time, baggies for blueberries, (which Mr. & Mrs. TCD brought), sunscreen advisable (which peakabagger brought) poles hopeful as the East River Trail climbs 5,375 feet in eight miles to Giant. We were going down & at almost 52 (a fat 52), poles were wonderful to have.

Comments: Thanks to my trailmates for waiting up & to TCD in narrating. The East Trail is a northeast classic, wide open ledges, tons of blueberries, superb views. We were able to car spot so we were able to do the trip with just 3000+ elevation gain to Giant in 3.2 miles and then an 8 mile descent with several hundred feet of elevation, most getting up RPR. We skipped the last cobble taking the trail around it as another 100 or so feet of climbing & descending wasn't needed, at least in my opinion. Afterwards we met at the ADK BBQ which was well run, fairly well attended by the NY contingent but we could have used some more New England hikers.
