We did this hike starting out of trailhead from Rt 9 and spotted a car at the Ridge trail/Chapel pond trailhead for a point to point hike. The trail was in great condition, with no blowdown, and had alot rock scrambling that was well marked with cairns and blazes. Not sure how much traffic this trail gets considering that the 8 miles to the summit of Giant and 5300' elevation gain is huge for an Adirondack trail, but the views are amazing and the foliage was still going strong. Not much mud along the trail, no stream crossings, just one water crossing across the edge of the lake. Winter weather has arrived to the 'Dacks as on both summits we were in snow squalls, but no traction gear was neccisary, just wind and warmth protection.
