OK, what a difference a couple of days makes! The weather for the last hike on Friday was terrible, but Sunday, awesome!
Three of us left from the hiker parking area before the Ausable Club at 8am and headed to the Beaver Meadow Falls trail to Gothics. Trail was in great shape a majority of the way. Snow and slick spots remain in the shade and at higher elevation. It took us just about 4 hours to reach the top of Gothics. The ridge to the summit is hard packed snow, but there are spots to the left where the actual trail is that are clear. Snowshoes not needed. I had stableicers with me, and found them helpful on the ascent. The weather was clear and the views were outstanding. Congratulations to Mark on High Peak # 11! Round trip was just about 8 hours. We were back at the Ausable Inn by 4:30, UBU in hand and Jimmy Buffett came on over the radio. Good times! Made it to the new 46r banquet in time for dinner! Congrats to all the new 46rs...especially adiROBdack46r!
