We started on Rt 73 were it crosses the North Fork Boquet River. There were a few inches of powder over a firm snow base. We followed ski tracks in for the first three miles. Thanks to Alex for excellent route finding. The river crossings were not as solid as I would like, but we were able to cross each without a problem. Making our way through the South Fork ravine was slow going because of the steep banks, large rocks, and partially frozen stream. We decided to head up the slope away from the stream and toward the base of the slide. This ended up being worse than the ravine. The slope was steep, the growth was thicker with large boulders and the snow was getting deeper. We pushed on for about half a mile but ran out of time. We turned around 1:00, still about 6 tenths of a mile from the base of the slide. Unfortunately, I cannot provide information about what the conditions are like up higher.
There is now a good track to the South Fork ravine. DO NOT follow our tracks up the slope. Stay along the brook for another three quarters of a mile or so.
