Hi Folks,

I'm looking for some info about the Grafton Loop trail that recently opened in western Maine on 7/1/07. If you've hiked this recently, I would appreciate some info.

1. Is there a ski patrol cabin at the top of Sunday River Whitecap, and is it open in the summer? Is there water nearby?

2. I read on VFTT a report from June that mentioned scarce water. I'm nervous about lack of water now as we're almost in September. Are there are designated campsites where the water source is now dry?

3. Are there reliable water sources anywhere besides the campsites? There looks like a few long sections which don't pass a marked stream on my map.

Thanks! ;)

You may be confusing Sunday River Ski Area with this summit. The Whitecap is across the valley from the ski area.

We climbed Old Speck from Grafton via the AT (southbound) on Monday (8/20) and there was Very Little water to be found. You would be able to fill a water bottle from the major stream that was along the lower section of the AT but you would never be able to pump from it.
