Dial and Nipple Top were in order for the Friday of the Gathering. We had just Brian and I and John (Paradox) lined up for this hike, until I got a late night call from Corey (coldriverrun) saying he wanted to join in.

We got a 7am start at the Round Pond Trailhead and very quickly made our way to the base of Gravestone Brook. Fro here we couldn't believe how open the brook was. Slab section after slab section. The near the upper split in the brook we veered off toward the summit of Dial and quickly realized that this would be a piece of cake.

As we approahed the summit ridge I hear a shout from Corey "watch out", "there's a fern up here". That was one of the best comments of the day. The other good comment were pointed toward John and ADK newby, we sure broke him in well, hey.

From there it was a stroll over to Nipple Top and back to Dial. Great views on Dial, Nipple Top was in the clouds never to escape on this day. On the return to Dial it was also in the thick cover. We returned via Gravestone Brook and back to the trail in just over an hour. We had plans of a bushwhack down from Nipplr Top to Hunter Pass, but due to wet trees from the clouds and being a little tired we passed. This gave Sunny #89 and #90, great route for dogs and hiker alike.

Highly recommended route.
