Needed to go back after having to turn around with another hiker in my Marcy/Skylight/Gray attempt 3 weeks ago. Very hot, too hot. Started at 6 to avoid the worst of it. Trail over lake Arnold is pretty muddy though the wet Feldspar area is more navigable than it was 2 weeks ago as the water has receded. Trail to Lake Tear in fine shape. Herdpath to Gray summit easy to follow but very wet. Rocks are growing that slippery red slime. Was on the summit by 10--no views as the clouds had converged. Cleared on the way back. Sunshine bringing heat and black flies in abundance. I look like I've been bitten by a vampire. The car thermometer registered 94 in Keene on the way home.
