trails: betty steele loop trail, peg king spur trail
conditions: good parking on the shoulder of 113a a bit north of tamworth village. hard to miss sign for the big pines natural area. trails were almost entirely dry and snow free. a few small patches down to the bridge and right at the start of the west branch of the loop trail. dry beyond and up the spur trail to the summit. the east branch of the loop was a bit wetter in spots with some bigger, but pretty incosequential patches of snow.
equipment: nothing in particular.
comments: great afternoon hike. very cool mature coniferous woods with plenty of the promised big pines. views from the tower were fantastic in all directions from red hill and the ossippes to the south around to the sandwich range to the north. great day to be out.
