Date of Hike: Sunday, July 6th
Trails: Phelps Trail, State Range, ADK Range, W.A. White, Rooster Comb
Trail Conditions / Comments: Phelp's Trail to Marcy is very gradual and has great to decent footing. From here the trails become steeper, especially inbetween Haystack, Basin, Saddleback, Gothics, descending north off Armstrong and from Wolfjaw Col. Basically they're in the usual ADK shape! Mix of slab and rocks, with some nasty roots and some mud in spots. Saddleback cliffs has scrambling, most will love it, if you're weary of scrambling just take your time and use caution and you'll be good to go. Some sections of trail will be a little tough for the dogs because of the ladders so use your common sense to help the pooches along the way. Water along the GR is almost non-existant, just one place to fill up in the Haystack / Basin Col. Great Range is, well, great! It packs the punches in the middle of the hike with a flurry of steep up and downs. Views are some of the best in the northeast from the exposed parts, if you like slides and scarred walls with dramatic 'in your face views' head to the Great Range! Click here for Pictures
