I talked with a friend from the Morrisville area this morning

they got 4-6 inches at 1500 feet but talk on the street is 10-12 above 3000 feet in the Mansfield Jay area anyway..

the hump won't be far behind

enjoy

i was on camels hump yesterday 10/31.
temp when i started was 26 at TH, 3 hours later at TH it was up to 46,
i think the snow will be melting quick. there was still maybee 4-6" up past 3500 ft. was great to get to play in the snow.

News alert: Smugglers Notch Road Closed for Season

Just letting you all know that Route 108 through Smugglers Notch is closed for the season. Closing this road, which runs through a high elevation natural area and is subject to extremely harsh winter conditions, is done annually. We will reopen the road sometime in the spring when Mother Nature allows.

Also note that Lincoln Gap Road is closed for the winter at about 2.7 miles from Rt 100 in Warren.

Saturday the woods around the Glastonburys had snow so above 3k probably yes down there. The Strat/Arl rd was open with 2-3 inches of slush at Unknamed Br pond height of land.Somerset area forest rds were open but muddy from melting. My mt bike was covered with snow at Little Pond, thats at about 2600ft

Does this preclude a gap-to-gap trip over Abraham & Ellen?

It wouldn't preclude it, but does make it harder. Some people still go up to Lincoln Gap once the road is closed, but most start from the Lincoln side as the road is much less steep.

Personally, if I wanted both peaks when the Lincoln Gap road was closed I'd go up and back via the Jerusaleum Trail. Abe is not that far beyond Elllen, so an out & back is not an unreasonable day.

Tim-

A Gap to Gap would add about 2 miles of road walk to the hike, I think all downhill. I should add I don't know how far in the road is closed on the Westerly approach, maybe it gets you closer to the trailhead. The road closed sign is right beyond the driveway of the last house.

Doable, based on indivual fitness and desire to do so.

I was doing a solo out and back so for me the extra 4 miles was not gonna happen.

Another note- I went to Lincoln Gap Road via Warren Mt Road, it was slick overnight and the steep downhill into Warren in the dark was "interesting". Nothing happened, but as it gets colder and wetter through winter I would avoid this approach if possible, expecially before daylight.
