Trails are dry and rocky - excellent condition. No blowdowns, many hikers, great weather.
No special equipment needed - sunglasses don't have to be special.
Used the AMC Hiker Shuttle to get from Zealand Trail parking to the Cannon Tramway parking lot (not a scheduled stop). An hour and a half to Greenleaf Hut and some great potato-dill soup. Then five more hours to Galehead Hut for the night. The VFTT at Lafayette and Garfield were spectacular - just enough haze to accentuate the different ranges, but still allow the long views.
