Growing Season Over

The NWS declared today that the "growing season" is over now in Northern NH and western Maine after last night's frost. (My field was white enough to look like snow.) Therefore NWS has suspended freeze/frost warnings until the 2009 growing season.

Funny, I was in several places this weekend (Thurs-Sun) - Chocorua area, Pinkham area, Randolph area- and while there was a reasonable frost Friday AM, most places didn't get below 30. By Sunday, many plants had recovered, even some of the more sensitive ferns. Of course, a few feet either way can make a difference. Still, tonight may be even colder to make the whole thing moot.
My tomatoes here in MA are still ripening, I hope it's another few weeks here.
