Four BRATTs took a hike on a hot Saturday, June 19, 2010 to Gunstock, Belknap and Piper Mtns, approx. 4 1/2 mi. We left the Carriage Rd. and started our slow pace in the cool of the morning to the first outcrop just to the side of the Gunstock Mtn. Trail where Peggy, George and Bill were caught taking a break.
Arrived at the summit of Gunstock after heavy breathing and sweating, to a manificent view of Lake Winnipesauke from the Pub deck.
It was time to head for the next objective, Mt. Belknap, 2382' and its fire tower.
Looking back to Gunstock as we ascended the Blue Trail to Mt. Belknap. A nice blueberry field is available on the left for friendly hikers and bears.
Arrived at the summit and a leisurely lunch with cool breezes from the tower. Too hazy for pictures. Continued down the White Trail to this shady outlook, looking west to Kearsarge. Plus, we had some shady people
Shortly reached a southeast view with Manning and Crystal Lakes in the distance.
We found another outlook looking towards the north summit of Piper.
After more sweating and heavy breathing, the trail opened up at the top of the north summit of Piper Mtn. seeing a hint of Lake Winnisquam (through the zoomed in notch). Mt. Klem, center, and Mack to the right, ridge going up Belknap on the left.
The chairs on top of the north summit, with Peggy levitating her pack and George lounging.
Westerly view from Piper with yet another rock chair.
A new way to say thanks. Dave is one of our BRATTs. Nice gesture.
After reaching the Carriage Rd. in the early afternoon, we drove up 1.3 mi. to enjoy views from the outlook and end the day with a breeze.
