BTW, the water treatment issues (stream or melted snow) are essentially the same for winter and warmer. (However, chemical treatments take longer when the water is cold.)

Does anyone actually treat the water from Guyot Spring? I don't! Ain't no beaver ponds on the top of Mt. Bond! Drink up and enjoy!

I didn't say that one had to treat the water from Guyot Spring (and the topic included melting snow). Just that the basic issues are the same year round. Springs are often safe all year. (I don't know off hand what the recommendations are for that particular spring.)

There may not be any beaver ponds above Guyot Spring, but lots of people go there. (Pun intentional.)

Well,if the psycho moose that Rocket 21 thankfully alerted the entire state to avoid, wanders up that high and walks thru the spring I might consider treating the water.

I have always previously treated the water at Guyot Spring just because it is such a well used area. Of course I almost always treat my water with the exception of twice on the AT last year when the water was literally "springing" up from a rock and I was beyond thirsty. I know lots of people who never treat water, yuck !!!

The Guyot "overflow" camping sites are directly uphill from the spring. Do you really think the people who stay in those sites leave the watershed to do their business?
