Water crossings not much of a problem to Loop Trail. I am posting this because of the very treacherous icy conditions from South Hancock down to Loop trail. Having had no trouble in snow shoes and micro spikes yesterday on Tom, Field and Willey, I left my crampons in the car this morning. Headed up to North Hancock with little trouble but it was a different story descending South Hancock. The conditions would have been challenging even in crampons, particularly the upper 2/3rds of the trail, where it looks like a wavy river froze hard in place. It might be easier ascending that way but crampons would definitely be helpful in current conditions. It took me an hour to descend the half mile and it wasn't pretty.
