Hancocks via Hancock Notch, Cedar Brook, Hancock Loop
Date of Hike: Saturday, January 17, 2009
Trail Conditions: Packed powder
Special Equipment Required: Snowshoes
Comments:
Trail very well packed all the way. A regular showshoe super highway. Stream crossings all easy navigated. Trail could be bare booted until the Hancock Loop up Mt Hancock gets steep and the snowshoes make the climb much easier.
One large blowdown (chainsaw material) at about 1 mile in. You have to crawl under unless you can limbo really low. Another smaller blowdown just past this one but easily to step over.
Trail between Mt Hancock and South Hancock had some snow drifts over the trail. Lots of spruce branches at face height with the snow on the trail. I got smacked several times.
Trail down from South Hancock made for great butt sliding!
