Trail Conditions: Great conditions all around. Hancock Notch was well packed and could be bare booted, Cedar Brook was well packed and the stream crossings were all easy.Hancock Loop was well packed until the start of the loop. From there on it had 4-6" of unpacked snow. Some sort of traction was pretty essential on the steeps. The South branch going down had been glissaded so I took that route down as well!

Special Equipment Required: I used snowshoes all the way. I used MSR LIghtning Ascents. I think snowshoes with less aggressive traction would have been difficult on the steep sections. The hikers in front of me barebooted to the steep section then seemed to switch to crampons or micro-spikes (not sure which as I only saw their footprints). Full winter gear minus face covering. It was windy on the North peak, calm but cold everywhere else.

Comments: One of the most fun days I have had in the Whites. Perfect conditions and a crisp, cold day and I'm finally getting the hang of heat management in the winter! Photos at http://www.sheeprocks.com
