Went out early today and did a 10 mile loop. Elevation short but lots of ups and downs. Don't remember the exact route but we parked near the Inn and hiked up to Perkins tower, went to west mountain and looped back to the Inn. Went with the ADK Long Island chapter. Very nice folks..lot's of fog, drizzle, sunshine, little breeze and loads of slippery leaves everywhere. Trying to get into shape for winter gathering.

Did you go by Doodletown? It's sort of SWish of the Inn and SE of Perkin's tower. It's a cool place as it used to be a small town. The NYNJTC has a book of the same name with a whole history of the place and a town map. It's really neat to have a narrative of the history.

I think it's not terribly far from West mtn and close to the Inn.

There are now informational plaques at every site in Doodletown. There is also a sign with a detailed map! The 1777 Trail(s) go through the site of the old town.

JayH - Yes, towards the end of the trail we passed the plaque about doodletown and we crossed over by the 1777 trail. the small streams were a little wider app 5-7 ft across. It was lots of fun, I felt like i could go another few miles but I went with a carpool. Very pretty there with the icw skating rink at the bottom. I might set up a trip for the members to go hiking and then skating in March. I'm working on how to set up pictures on the computer..
