I tried to post a longer report but for some reasons was unable. Anyway, the trail is now open between Haystack, Basin, and Saddleback.
If you should go this way, snowshoes, poles, and may be an ice axe are helpful.
As of Saturday, Dec. 5th, Shorey Short Cut was not broken, so if you decide to bail out or return by this route be prepared to break trail.
