1/11, Started from Grace Camp early morning with party of three. Had broken trail past Bushnell falls and Slant Rock the day before on way to Marcy, so fast hiking early. Broke trail on final 1.1 miles to Haystack summit. Trail up Basin partially broke, but between Basin and Saddleback snow was deep and no hint of it being broken. Backside of Saddleback was icy. Returned to Grace Camp via broken Orbed Brook Trail. Used snowshoes all day with exception of Saddleback ascent where crampons were needed. Climbed Saddleback with only liner gloves because hand grips needed up some of the rock formations. Very cold.
