We skied from Beaver Brook to the Gale River Road and its intersection with the snowmobile trail which we then took to height-of-land and the herd path to the Nubble. Skiing both ways (total 6 miles) was superb, on freshly groomed (for sleds) snow. Herd path had not been broken for a long while and involved breaking in knee to thigh deep snow with a surface crust. Several blowdowns, a couple of the real dignity-removing variety. Route up Nubble's ridge had deep snow, some spruce traps and a few interesting moves. No crossing issues.
Skis and snowshoes. GPS came in handy to stay on the herd path, such as it were.
Great outing to an appealing summit, with good skiing and lots of work in the deep snow.
