Trail conditions were good with a very hard pack base and some new light powder from the night before. The trail was pretty well broken from the Garden to the Break with Shoery Short Cut. From there to the summit the trail was unbroken with some section of wind blown snow about thigh deep.
Special Equipment:
Crampons I thought were necessary for the decent down Little Haystack along with an axe. I have not been to that area in years and forgot how steep and rocky it really is.
Stupidly, I took a slight detour and missed the break to Haystack so I decided I would summit Marcy for the 2nd time in 2 week. That route was also unbroken at the time. Another hiker joined us on Haystack who had just came from Basin, so the Range trail from Marcy to Basin is broken for the time being.
I got to share my trip with Andrew and Jenn who got their W, on a spectacular day in the Adirondacks... Congratulations!!!!!
