Had a few hours left in the day so I tried to go up the Hi-Cannon Trail. The Lonesome Lake Trail to the junction was packed, no snowshoes needed. Hi-Cannon was completely unbroken. On the lower section, up to the Dodge Cutoff, the snow was not very deep and the going was not too difficult except for some minor obstacles in the form of blowdowns. Above the junction the snow got noticeably deeper. Just below the Cliff House the trail completely disappeared into waist-deep drifts of powder, and at this point I went back down. Moral of the story: while this trail is not very long, it's very slow going right now, so plan a full day for the whole loop back to the Kinsman trail. That said, it's a very nice trail, totally secluded and a winter wonderland.
